Drill Teams

What is Drill?
Drill teams are about providing a better understanding of drill and ceremonies for both military and civilian functions. Drill consists of the following: Regulation, Exhibition, Inspection

We offer 4 different special teams in our unit. These include Color Guard, Armed Team, Unarmed Team, and Saber Team. Each team has their own unique purpose, for instance...

Color Guard
The Color Guard is responsible for presenting the colors (American, State, and Service flags) for the playing of the National Anthem at special community, and school events. The commander is responsible for organizing and training the members of the Color Guard. Activities the Color Guard supports may include; school varsity sports games, community functions, and other special events on request.

Armed
The Armed Team is focused on learning their rifle’s respective manuals. For exhibition, this team can do many moves that would otherwise be prohibited (spinning rifles, tossing rifles, throwing rifles, etc).

Unarmed
The Unarmed Team is essentially standard military marching; without the use of rifles. For exhibition, this team performs a percussive routine in which you use your body as an instrument (clapping, snapping, stomping, etc.).

Saber
Saber Team is an armed drill team specializing in drilling and ceremony. We perform regulation, exhibition, and cordon. The most prominent Saber Team event is Military Ball. Cadets will be taught how to properly handle and use a sword while drilling.

Commanders Notes
Drill Commander
My name is Lief Fowlkes. My rank is C/1st Lt. and I am a Flight and Drill Commander. I'll be in charge of setting up competitions to go to and be ready to win said competitions. No questions asked. My goal is that we take all the teams to the nationals competition and win everything in 1st place. I love singing and doing art, and love chocolate.
Last year I placed 2nd in Armed Solo Exhibition/2nd in tap out @Sweetwater Competition, led my team to 2nd in Fontana Competition, and placed 9th in Armed Solo Exhibition @West Coast Drill Nationals.
Color Guard Commander
This is Cadet 2nd Lt. Joziah Taylor, I will be the Color Guard commander for the 2025-2026 year. As the Color Guard commander I will be leading the Color Guard team through the participation in special events and competitions with the use of rifles and flags. For this year, the team will work through how Color Guard works to strive to complete goals for the team. My goal for the unit is to make Color Guard better than last year and to build a strong community in the team, to help work together towards great things. I'm excited to help new people learn about this team and how it works and to help them grow to become great people among the team and the unit. Outside of school, I like to do fencing, I hope to become a Paleontologist someday, I am with the band program, I play the Bassoon, and I am in the student venture Bible club at VHS. I can't wait to see new and old faces next school year.
Armed Team Commander
I will be the Exhibition Commander for the 2025/26 school year. I will be teaching and commanding the Armed Exhibition Cadets. This upcoming year I hope to give all of the Cadets the opportunity to define their skills as well as learn a foundation of Exhibition for their future. I am excited to help command the Armed flight and meet the new Cadets entering the AFJROTC and Armed program. In my free time I have taken up boxing, which is my favorite pastime aside from practicing Armed. I wish for a great year for all and I hope we can learn from each other, gain more knowledge, and experience together. - C/2nd Lt. James Cacho
I will be commanding the Armed Team for the 2025-2026 school year. You'll find that this team specializes in cadets marching with rifles while displaying discipline and confidence. This year, I am in charge of the regulation aspect of armed (the execution of professional, sequenced-based rifle movements). One of my goals is to bring attention to our unit's extracurricular activities, such as our special teams or clubs, they are so much fun and builds character. In my free time, I enjoy playing videogames, listening to music, and eating out. I look forward to seeing the success and growth of our unit! - C/2nd Lt. Evan Calimlim
Unarmed Team Commander
I am C/2nd Lt. Abigail Taduran and I will be the Unarmed Commander for the 25-26 school year. Unarmed focuses on precise, synchronized, intricate choreography without the use of rifles or other accessories. This activity boosts your confidence in marching and cooperation. My goal as the unarmed commander is to have us bring home as much trophies as we can to make it to Nationals. Outside of AFJROTC, I am involved in Link Crew, CSF, enjoy hanging out with friends, drawing, and listening to music. As your unarmed commander, I hope to build the best drill team possible.
Saber Team Commander
My name is Siddhesh Dhuri. I am a C/SSgt, and am the Sabre Team Commander for the 25-26 school year. The Saber Team is a special team that performs drill routines and ceremonial cordons. For the past couple of years, the Saber team has been inactive, only performing cordons when necessary. However, this year I hope to take the Sabre Team to drill competitions to compete and restore it to what it should be. Apart from drill, I play tennis and am a 4th degree black belt. I enjoy practicing in these sports, and most of my time goes into them.
